Bonding builds composite onto the tooth rather than cutting the tooth down to fit something over it. In most cases nothing is drilled, which makes it the most conservative cosmetic treatment we offer.
It suits chipped edges, small gaps, worn front teeth and teeth that sit slightly short of their neighbours. It is shaped and polished by hand in the chair, so the result depends more on the clinician's eye than on a laboratory.
Composite picks up stain more readily than porcelain and will need polishing every so often, and eventually replacing. That is the trade for keeping the tooth underneath intact, and for most people it is the right one.
